1. Belle Mare (East Coast)
Belle Mare is arguably the most beautiful stretch of sand in Mauritius. The long, wide beach is lined with casuarina trees providing natural shade, and the turquoise lagoon is calm and perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
How to get there: About 1 hour from the airport by car. The beach is public and easily accessible via the coastal road.
2. Trou aux Biches (North-West Coast)
A favourite among locals and visitors alike, Trou aux Biches offers shallow, warm water and a relaxed atmosphere. It's an excellent spot for families with children.
How to get there: 45 minutes from the capital, Port Louis. Ample parking is available near the public beach entrance.
3. Le Morne (South-West Coast)
At the foot of the iconic Le Morne Brabant mountain, this beach is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The lagoon is a kitesurfing mecca thanks to consistent winds, and the views are simply breathtaking.
How to get there: 1 hour from the airport. The beach is accessible via the coastal road to Le Morne village.
4. Île aux Cerfs (East Coast)
Technically a small island off the east coast, Île aux Cerfs is reached by a short boat trip. It boasts pristine white sand, crystal-clear water, and a range of watersports. A must-visit for a day trip.
How to get there: Boat transfers depart regularly from Pointe Maurice. Many operators offer full-day packages with lunch included.
5. Pereybère (North Coast)
A smaller, more intimate beach with deep, clear water that's great for swimming. It's popular but never feels overcrowded thanks to its sheltered location.
How to get there: 15 minutes from Grand Baie. Street parking is available nearby.
6. Flic en Flac (West Coast)
One of the longest beaches on the island, Flic en Flac offers a wide lagoon protected by a coral reef. It's ideal for sunset walks and snorkelling, with plenty of restaurants and hotels nearby.
How to get there: 40 minutes from Port Louis. Public parking is available along the beach road.
7. Blue Bay (South-East Coast)
Blue Bay is renowned for its marine park, one of the best snorkelling spots in Mauritius. The coral gardens are teeming with colourful fish, and glass-bottom boat tours are available for non-swimmers.
How to get there: 20 minutes from the airport. The marine park entrance is well signposted.
8. Gris-Gris (South Coast)
Unlike the calm lagoons elsewhere, Gris-Gris features dramatic cliffs and powerful waves — no reef protects this stretch. It's a stunning place to watch the ocean's raw power, but swimming is not safe here.
How to get there: 45 minutes from the airport via the southern coastal road.
9. Mont Choisy (North-West Coast)
A long, crescent-shaped beach that's quieter than its neighbours. The water is calm and shallow, making it perfect for a peaceful swim or a picnic under the filao trees.
How to get there: 10 minutes from Grand Baie. Parking is available at the northern end of the beach.
10. La Cuvette (North Coast)
A small, hidden cove near Grand Baie that's perfect for a quiet escape. The water is deeper here, and the rocky surroundings give it a wild, untouched feel.
How to get there: 5 minutes from Grand Baie centre. Limited parking is available along the roadside.
