Clothing
Mauritius is warm year-round, so light, breathable clothing is essential. Pack mostly cotton or linen items. However, a few warmer layers are useful for winter evenings on the central plateau and for air-conditioned restaurants.
• 5–7 t-shirts or tops • 2–3 pairs of shorts / skirts • 1–2 lightweight trousers for evenings • 2 swimwear sets (so one can dry while you wear the other) • A light jumper or cardigan • A lightweight rain jacket (summer months) • Comfortable walking shoes • Flip-flops or sandals
Beach & Watersports Gear
• Reef-safe sunscreen (SPF 30+) • A rash vest or UV shirt • Water shoes / reef shoes — essential for rocky beaches and coral areas • Snorkel mask and fins (optional — most operators provide these) • A quick-dry towel • A dry bag for your phone and valuables
Health & Toiletries
• Insect repellent (mosquitoes can be present at dusk) • Basic first-aid kit: plasters, antiseptic, painkillers, motion sickness tablets • Personal medications (bring copies of prescriptions) • Hand sanitiser • After-sun lotion or aloe vera gel
Electronics & Documents
• Universal travel adapter (Mauritius uses Type C and Type G plugs, 230V) • Power bank for long days out • Waterproof phone case • Passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay) • Travel insurance documents • Printed copies of hotel and activity bookings • Cash (Mauritian Rupee) for small vendors — though cards are widely accepted
Don't Forget
• A reusable water bottle — tap water is generally safe to drink, and staying hydrated in the tropical heat is essential. • A small backpack for day trips. • A good pair of sunglasses with UV protection. • A book or e-reader for lazy beach afternoons.
